About a month after opening Carrie and I decided to go back and see how Smashburger was doing. I haven't driven past the area but I had heard that it was super packed during the first week of opening (lines out the door!). A couple people that I told about Smashburger went to try it out and they told me they liked it.
C decided to go with the Capital BurgerGrilled onions, aged Swiss cheese, baby arugula, applewood smoked bacon, tomatoes and mayo on a brioche bun $5.99again because it was so amazing the first time around. I decided to go with the Avocado ClubFresh avocado, applewood smoked bacon, lettuce tomato, ranch dressing and mayo on a multi-grain bun $5.99. It was pretty good, although they put mayo on it when I requested a different sauce. They took it back and fixed it though.
We decided to get Fried Pickles $2.49 & the normal French Fries $1.99. Per usual the pickles were amazing and the fries were just your typical fried goodness.
The line to order food was ridiculously slow, could be the employees taking orders, the patrons ordering or a combo of both? I noticed this problem in the Brooklyn location as well. Who knows? All I know is they need to get the employees back from when I did my original tasting or get the current ones better trained. They are still new so I'll cut them some slack. However the people walking around the store making sure everything was alright were just as nice and prompt as ever.
They also seem to have a new wall/divider up which makes any line incredibly inconvenient to have. If you have more then ~10 people waiting, they will probably be waiting outdoors and now that winter is coming, it will be quite miserable.
Other then the little service snafu, this trip was good, the sides are def on par with the last trip. While the burgers were good, sadly they were not of the same caliber as when we first went-not as juicy or flavorful. I still think this place is better then most burger places and the quality toppings are definitely a major plus.
