April Foodie Pen Pals

This month was my first time doing Foodie Pen Pals created by Lindsay over at the Lean Green Bean and I was not disappointed.
The Lean Green Bean
Nothing is more exciting then seeing a package at your doorstep when you get home from work. I was excited to get mine because Mackenzie from Wealth of Health was making my package. I was hoping for some healthy goodies to try and my package was def not a let down.

I immediately saw a power bar, quickly snapped a picture and chowed down on it. I have never had this particular Power Bar, Triple Threat Long Lasting Energy Chocolate Peanut Butter Chip. It was delicious, although I didn't get a rush of energy (then again energy drinks, etc have never had any affect on me, believe me I have tried) but it tided me over for awhile until I had time to get lunch.

Toffee Almonds: Delicious, so delicious that I forgot to snap a photo while munching away on these. I predict a recipe coming up in the future to attempt to recreate these.

I got 3 different dips (which sadly I have yet to try because I have been busy moving/been sick). Little did Mackenzie know that I LOVE dip mixes. Every-time I go to a craft expo I always end up buying a whole bunch of these to make...now I am stocked up.
Along with a whole bunch of other goodies she sent me 2 recipes. Chai muffins and Protein Chocolate Chip Cookies. I have yet to make either (because of said reason above) but I am dying to make the cookies...a chocolate chip cookie that is good for you? What could be better in life?

She also sent me chia seeds, which I immediately had to read up. They are fascinating and I have been sneaking them into my yogurts for breakfast in the morning.

My penpal was Kelly from Texas and because she doesn't have a blog I asked her if she wanted to do a guest post on my blog of her goodies and she happily obliged! Take it away Kelly!

Participating in the ‘Foodie Pen Pal’ program was such a fun experience!  All of April’s choices for the box she sent to me were from Trader Joe’s.  In her letter to me she said that she hoped I liked Trader Joes—little did she know that I have been anxiously awaiting the opening of Trader Joe’s in the Houston area for about a year!  Now I’m even more excited for Trader Joe’s to be in Houston because I have a few things I know I’ll be picking up on a regular basis now!!
ALL these things are so so so delicious!!  I had to try out the Cookie Butter immediately.  It is absolutely delicious! I’ve so far tried it with Annie’s graham crackers, animal crackers and CHOCOLATE!! It is so so so delicious when you dip some chocolate (The Trader Joe’s 100 Calorie chocolate sticks!) into it!!  After trying it (right after opening the box!) I knew I had to take it to work the next day for my girlfriends at work to give a try!  (They loved it!!)

For breakfast, I used a pinch of the pink sea salts on my scrambled eggs!  AHHMAZING!  I’ve never experimented with sea salts or anything other than table salt before but these were amazing to have with my breakfast!!  I’m looking forward to making it a regular item on my shopping list!

Next up was what I would incorporate in my lunch!  I had some leftover guac from Chipotle—the perfect match for the pita chips!  So delicious! And the orange flavored cranberries made a delicious addition to my salad!  I LOVE throwing anything I can get my hands onto into a salad (from different berries, fruits, peppers, or whatever is left over from dinner the previous day).  These little guys gave my daily salad the perfect ‘zing’!!

And after lunch I tied it all together by having one of the mints while I got back to work!  (Don’t want to have bad breath in the afternoon!) And then started snacking on the cookie butter again!

Thanks April for all the fun treats!  I’m looking forward to Trader Joe’s to open in Houston even more now!!

So glad I could help convert someone to Trader Joe's! And convert yet another person to the darkside...aka a Cookie Butter Lover!

I can't wait to participate next month!

If you're interested in joining the Foodie Pen Pal Program here’s a detailed explanation of the program:
-On the 5th of the month, you will receive your penpal pairing via email. It will be your responsibility to contact your penpal and get their mailing address and any other information you might need like allergies or dietary restrictions.
-You will have until the 15th of the month to put your box of goodies in the mail. On the last day of the month, you will post about the goodies you received from your penpal!
-The boxes are to be filled with fun foodie things, local food items or even homemade treatsThe spending limit is $15The box must also include something written. This can be anything from a note explaining what’s in the box, to a fun recipe…use your imagination!
-You are responsible for figuring out the best way to ship your items depending on their size and how fragile they are. (Don’t forget about flat rate boxes!)
-Foodie Penpals is open to blog readers as well as bloggers. If you’re a reader and you get paired with a blogger, you can choose to write a short guest post for your penpal to post on their blog about what you received. If two readers are paired together, neither needs to worry about writing a post for that month.
- Foodie Penpals is open to US, Canadian residents & UK residents.  Please note, Canadian Residents will be paired with other Canadians only. We’ve determined things might get too slow and backed up if we’re trying to send foods through customs across the border from US to Canada and vice versa. So, I’m going to keep two separate lists and match US w/ US and Canada w/ Canada!
***If you’re in Europe, please contact Carol Anne from This Is Rock Salt at rocksalt@thisisrocksalt.com to get involved!
If you have any questions or want more information about joining get in contact with Lindsay over at The Lean Green Bean! If you're ready to sign up, click here to fill out a participation form!

  1. So happy you liked your box! And even happier that you loved the dips (well not the taste yet, but the idea of them)! The box you sent to Kelly looks awesome too!
